Relationship Advice of the day.

Qualities of lasting relationships
-Happily ever after doesn’t come on its own we want the perfect partner but how do we find them? Once we do, how do we make sure we don't mess it up?

1. Effective communication-Look for a partner who can talk about the relationship. If you find someone who is unwilling to speak and talk and work things through,-your in an impossible situation. They don’t resolve conflict well so conflict is always problematic, and leaves them feeling sad and hostile with each other. They don't know how to talk about their hopes and dreams with each other. They don’t know how to give the other person room to grow. These are the kinds of things that destroy a relationship in the long run. The only way to improve a relation is to talk about things that don’t work, and then attempt to work them through by negotiation or just through openness and understanding about what the other person is feeling.

2. Shared Values-You've got to have a world view that at least matches in some way, that of your partners, and if you don’t have that, there’s going to be a lot of friction along the way and over time the relationship can be defeated by those differences.

3. Respect- You have to respect this person. You have to have a feeling that you value and respect who they are as a person. You need a good strong physical attraction as well.
Those three things really matter, but you can’t have any of them without that prime one; the ability to talk things through.

It’s very easy to rationalize and say "well I don’t really respect him, but I could come to respect him" and that kind of betting on the future is rarely effective.

One should not settle for less in love.

"I can't tell a lie, Pa; you know I can't tell a lie. I did cut it with my hatchet."

...said George Washington.

Today's post is about CHERRY BLOSSOM TREES!
I'm a fan. They are in bloom around my campus and I've just recently began to realize their beauty.

I just recently went to D.C for my spring break, and learned about the amazing cherry blossom festival they have!

That's the site.

If you ever get a chance to go to D.C, I suggest going during this spring part of the year. This is when the flowers are just starting to bloom, and the air smells so sweet! Tons and Tons of photo opportunities too!

The reason there are so many cherry blossoms in D.C. is because "over 3,000 cherry blossoms were given to the U.S. by Japan to symbolize the friendship between the two countries before WWII. After WWII ended, another 3,800 of the trees were shipped to the U.S. to renew the friendship between the countries."-http://www.nationalcherryblossom.com/

Cherry Blossoms are hearty trees and like the sun!
Next time you are gift giving, a Cherry Blossom tree might be a great choice!

-In the beginning-

Let me start out with a little background information about myself.

My name is Chrissy. I am a vegetarian. Scratch that-Pescetarian(I eat fish) About 8 years ago I decided to make the choice to turn Pescetarian because of the abuse that I learned was going on in the meat industry. It's a global problem that needs to be addressed and changed. Without getting too political on the subject, all I will say is that this can only be accomplished through education, patience, and persistence. I realize the fish industry is just as bad as the meat industry, but I have not yet weaned myself off of fish/sea creatures. My belief is, if you'd be able to kill it yourself, you should be able to eat it.

I see so many kids and even adults today, unaware of all the harmful things they are feeding to their kids and eating themselves. The silent battle we are fighting as a society pertains not only in the realm of the food industry but also to the things we use for everyday living. There are horrendous things being added to our everyday items like our soap, plastic, cosmetics, cleaning agents- etc.

Ok. So long story short. I wanted to start this blog because I realized just how much research I end up doing on a daily basis about trying to live a natural lifestyle. I thought-there's got to be other people in the world trying to do the same as me. Why not open up a forum for the progression of our society? The green movement is finally here and it's not goin' away. Thank goodness! I think as a general whole, my generation especially(Gen Y) has lost a grip on just where we are as humans-how far along we've come. You cannot blame us. We grew UP with color TV and computers. It's just always been there for us. We're not quite sure what you oldies are talking about when you mention "The War of the Worlds" and we just barely know about The Lawrence Welk Show. I've even heard some kids younger than me question who Elvis Presley or John Lennon were! If my generation wants something to eat, we pick up our cell phones, call the local pizza hut and our food is ready in 30 minutes. Done. No hunting. No preparing. No thinking ahead for the winter months. We have EVERYTHING at our fingertips. Right in a prepackaged neat little container. "Hey I don't know how it got here, but it sure is good!"

Well..............I say why not? Why don't we know where it came from? Shouldn't we? Do we care? If we knew-would we still care?

Why exactly DON'T we care? Convenience? Price? Too busy balancing the work/family to think too deeply about it? That's all fine. It's not a bad thing. All I'm saying is, we can have all the benefits of price, convenience and balance without being nasty to our bodies, earth and others-including foreign countries.

So here Is what I propose.

Ideally I'd like to live a life free of animal products. A life free of products made in sweat shops. A life free from unnecessary chemicals. A holistic lifestyle with natural remedies. A lifestyle of sustainability and simplicity. A life similar to the original inhabitants of our nation. The NATIVE Americans. Let's adapt their beliefs to our new way of living. Accept the changes we've grown into with an appreciation for the earth and the people and animals on it.

Can't we all benefit from that?

It may not be simple, sometimes practical or easy but we have to start somewhere.

That is what this blog will be about. And this is where we start. With this seed-we will grow into a strong tree and bear the weathers of time. With these core values and dedication to a better life, a new intelligent strong community can be formed.

Here goes.

Chrissy
